About Colin

I am an Obstetrician and Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist (expert in high risk pregnancy) with over 20 years’ experience. I am based on the North Shore of Sydney, although I look after women from all across NSW.  I deliver babies at North Shore Private Hospital & the Mater Hospital and see you for antenatal visits in my rooms in St Leonards.

Prior to moving into full-time private practice, I was a Senior Staff Specialist in Obstetrics at the Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit of Royal North Shore Hospital, where I spent 5 years running the high risk antenatal / medical disorders in pregnancy clinic.

I chose to specialise in high risk obstetrics because it’s a chance to make a difference to a whole family. Women, and families, experiencing a complicated pregnancy deserve the highest standard of evidence-based medical care – and at the same time they need compassion, communication and trust. Of course, this applies equally to women having straightforward pregnancies, so I also look after low-risk women who enjoy the extra reassurance of seeing a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist. I keep my practice small so that I can provide truly personalised care to my patients.

Prior to returning to Sydney in 2013 with my lovely Australian wife, I worked in specialist maternity units in Dublin, New York and Cambridge. These are some of the busiest and most respected obstetric hospitals worldwide, allowing me to offer you a fresh and contemporary international perspective on best-practice pregnancy care.
Having completed a busy two-year fellowship in high-risk obstetrics at the National Maternity Hospital in Dublin, I am one of only 15 or so accredited Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists (experts in high-risk pregnancy) in New South Wales. I also undertook a 3-year fellowship in the renowned Pelvic Floor Unit at St George Hospital Sydney, caring for women with pelvic floor problems before, during and after pregnancy.
In addition to my clinical experience, I am very active in teaching and research. I have published more than 90 scientific papers, written chapters for major medical textbooks, acted as a reviewer for international medical journals and written a guest editorial for the British Medical Journal. I hold a PhD from the University of New South Wales, for which I was awarded a prestigious international scholarship. I regularly teach medical students and junior doctors and have been invited to give lectures to GPs, midwives and other obstetricians, both in Australia and internationally.
